Not usually. If the quoted price of an interface is less than a certain amount, all we ask is that you sign our one-page proposal promising to pay us immediately following the installation of your interface. The highest priced interfaces will typically take longer to complete and may require a deposit to cover our initial development expenses. The payment terms of our contract will be spelled out in clear language and must be agreed to by you before any development begins.

Although we re-use a significant amount of technology every time we create an interface, each interface is highly customized for each client. Even two clients using the same brand of software will end up with a custom interface. The reason we don’t sell a one size fits all interface is simple. Two clients may have the same brand of software, but they may use different versions. Additionally, each client will utilize their particular software installation in different ways. Sometimes the differences are slight and other times the differences are huge. It would be dangerous to assume that everyone would enter data into their software in exactly the same way. In order to provide the highest quality interface, it is essential for us to understand not only the basic structure of the source data, but also to understand the content contained within the structure. Taking this meticulous approach means more work for us, but it ensures a more complete interface with fewer bugs and support issues later on.

The work that we do usually allows us to focus directly on the data leaving us software agnostic. Data storage systems include SQL servers like MS-SQL, SQLAnywhere, MySQL or even proprietary data structures such as Access, FoxPro, and many others. Assuming that your software is using a data storage system that provide some method to access the data stored within either via custom reports or direct linking to the data, we can build an interface from your software.

The best answer is the dreaded “It Depends.” The simple answer is that our pricing is based upon the expected labor needed to create a particular type of interface for a particular client. For example, a general ledger interface usually requires less labor and therefore is less expensive than a tax services interface that required much more time to complete. Additionally, if the client is able to provide us with discreet exported files from their system the interface will typically be less expensive than if we are required to connect directly to the data source and extract the data ourselves. The best answer would be to contact us about your specific needs and we’ll be happy to provide a quote free of charge. We’ll discuss your options, your needs and your expectations and then provide you with a firm quote. Rest assured that your interface will never cost more than the highest price we quote. If we miscalculate the labor required, we will never bill you for cost overruns.

We provide 12 months of full support with every interface we develop. This means that if a problem comes up that we didn’t anticipate, all you have to do is pick up the phone and give us a call. Additionally, if your situation changes in a way that requires a change to the interface, it will most likely be covered under the Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA). If the change is significant such as a complete change in the originating data source or perhaps you decide to switch accounting software, we will negotiate our upgrade pricing at a lower price if you are covered by an active SMA. At the end of the first year, you can optionally renew your SSA for a low annual price (for less than $2 per day!). If you choose to not renew your SMA, we’ll still be here to help if you have a problem, but we will bill our time at our regular published hourly rate.

Kandu The GuruKandu The Guru has been our company mascot since 1993. Originally conceived by the founder Paul Tarver, the idea was to convey to our clients several key messages at the same time. At the time Kandu was created, a lot of companies were using “geeks” in their company names and logos. We wanted to differentiate our company from the rest of the pack and since one of our customers kept referring to us as his “gurus” we wanted to play on the Guru Theme to create a recognizable mascot for our products. The design was a play on the Arabian Nights theme with Kandu sitting on a magic carpet suggesting that Kandu could take you anywhere in the computer world. The keyboard on his lap makes it clear that computers are our business and his dress suggests that we are focused more on the work than the billing. At the end of the day, the most important message we wanted to convey to our clients was a sense of fun. We try hard to make using our products fun and easy. And above all, we wanted our clients to smile every time they ran one of our software products. Kandu The Guru offers a smile to everyone who sees him and we hope that he always gets one in return.
